Sustainable Technologies
What is it?
Sustainable technologies are innovations designed to reduce environmental impact while supporting long-term economic growth. These include renewable energy sources, energy-efficient systems, waste reduction solutions, and environmentally friendly materials. They help lower resource consumption, decrease pollution, and improve efficiency in industries, transportation, and everyday life. In the Tri-Cities, sustainable technologies drive economic sustainability by creating jobs, attracting investment, and making businesses more competitive while preserving natural resources for future generations.
Who’s working on it in the Tri-Cities?
- Pacific Northwest National Laboratory (PNNL): PNNL advances the frontiers of knowledge, taking on some of the world’s greatest science and technology challenges.
- Washington State University’s (WSU) Bioproducts, Sciences, & Engineering Laboratory (BSEL): rovides space for critical research to advance research in identifying useful non-energy products that can be used to promote energy sustainability.
- Tri-Cities Research District: An inland Washington ecosystem of advanced technology, manufacturing, and clean energy.
- Energy Forward Alliance: “Using the clean energy leadership, skills, and knowledge of our region, we will leverage existing clean energy technologies and develop and deploy new and additional technologies to deliver a clean energy community model that will inspire communities across the state, nation, and world to participate in a sustainable future.” Formed by TRIDEC.
- Mid-Columbia Energy Initiative (MCEI): MCEI is focused on economic development that capitalizes on local infrastructure, resources, and expertise in the energy sector while retaining and recruiting businesses and jobs that promote solutions to current and future energy challenges.
