Board of Directors

James Wise, President

Dr. James A. Wise is retired after a 40-year career in academia, business and at a US government national laboratory.
He received his BS. and Ph.D. in Mathematical Psychology at the University of Washington, and focused on the design of built environments to better fit people and nature.

He’s lived in Richland since 1990, where he worked for PNNL, WSU-TC and the Richland Office of the DOE teaching and developing Sustainability practices.

Our vice-president position is open and we are seeking a replacement.

Lora Rathbone, Secretary

Lora has worked in many capacities since arriving in the Tri-Cities some 38 years ago, including making the region more livable and sustainable. She has a life-long passion for environmental conservation, with a current focus on mitigating climate change. Lora has worked as an advocate, lobbyist, educator, and supporter of Go Green Tri-Cities and the Citizens Climate Lobby and is a long-serving member of Sustainable Tri-Cities. Lora has an MS degree in Entomology, specializing in natural pest control.

Bill Barlow, Treasurer

Bill has a Bachelor degree in Political Science and his Masters degree in City & Regional  Planning. His first full time job was building artificial arms and legs for a prosthetics clinic in Downtown Cleveland and he joined the City of Baltimore as a transportation planner after building a Commune in Marin and running Red bus Recycling in North Carolina while working full time on the Nuclear Freeze Campaign. 

He joined the Canadian Peace Corp and began a long career of International Development, working on various projects in Indonesia, Zamboanga, Port of Cagayan de Oro and Bangkok.

In the USA he has participated in the Puget Sound Smart Card procurement, dedicated short-range communication protocol for the 5.9Ghz spectrum, the first Diversity Program for Community Transit and ‘future-proofing cities’ by developing hurricane response, preserving perishable food by installing flash freezers and much more.

Newsletter Editor

We’re seeking a passionate and skilled designer to join us as a Newsletter Editor. Using Mailchimp, you’ll curate and organize upcoming events, important announcements, and engaging blogs/stories for our monthly newsletter. Help keep our community informed and inspired.

Blog Writer

We are looking for a dedicated writer to join our volunteer team as a Blog Writer. In this role, you will educate the public on sustainability, feature local sustainable businesses and organizations, and write about Sustainable Tri-Cities actions taken, such as policy endorsements and advocacy efforts. Highlight successes and inspire our community with compelling stories and insights.

Social Media Manager

We’re seeking a creative and organized individual to join our team manage our social media on Facebook. Create and schedule six posts a month using Canva, or other preferred design software. Focus on educating the public about sustainability and highlighting our organization’s activities and successes. Help us engage and grow our online community with your expertise
