Friends Summer Kayak Adventure July 11, 2025

July 11. 2025 Summer Kayak Adventure for Friends of the Refuge!
The Friends of Mid-Columbia Wildlife Refuges, in conjunction with U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service, is offering a guided, approximately 7 mile, flatwater kayak adventure on the water bird rich Paterson Slough, Umatilla National Wildlife Refuge. The trip is open to members of the Friends of the Refuge.(To join, see https://www.friendsofmcrwr.org/membership.html) There will be a limit of 18 people for this tour.

Here are the details:

Date and time: July 11, 2025, meeting at 10am.
If Friday, July 11 turns out to be an undesirable day to kayak due to weather, winds, whatever, then we will go Saturday, July 12.
Once a participant list is confirmed, carpooling can be arranged.
Please note that if Paterson is too windy, we might change the location to the Peninsula route, part of McNary National Wildlife Refuge.

Where do we meet?
No shuttle is needed so everyone will meet at the Army Corp of Engineers boat launch just SE of Paterson.

Kayaks: FWS can supply members of the Friends of MCRWR 10 singles and 4 tandems.
These kayaks will be transported to the put-in and take-out for the Friends.

Length of trip:
The route is approximately 7 miles and will take approximately 3 hours.
We will stop for a break/lunch/snack/water (no toilets).
All participants should bring their own food and water, as well as appropriate extra clothing for the weather.
Don’t forget sunscreen and sunhats with a “leash”.

When you sign up, include your name(s), if you are a Friends member, and if you want a single or tandem Kayak.
Also include a mobile text number for last minute communications, if necessary.
Please try to sign up before June 22 if you want immediate confirmation.
