Basic Services

What is it?

These are essential services that all individuals, regardless of their background or socio-economic status, should have access to in order to live healthy, fulfilling lives. These services include healthcare, education, housing, clean water, sanitation, transportation, and safety. Ensuring equitable access to these services is important for creating inclusive communities where everyone has the opportunity to thrive and contribute to the social and economic well-being of society.

Who’s working on it in the Tri-Cities?

  • Washington 211 Greater Columbia Region – Dial 2-1-1. A free confidential community service and your one-stop connection to the local services you need, from utility assistance, food, housing, health, child care, after school programs, elder care, crisis intervention and much more.
  • Benton Franklin Community Action Committee – Providing pathways out of poverty. Contains a “Home Base Resource Directory” with many resources.
  • The Arc Tri-Cities – Promotes the rights of all people with intellectual and developmental disabilities by actively supporting full inclusion and participation in all aspects of the community throughout their lives.
  • World Relief Tri-Cities – A global Christian humanitarian organization whose mission is to empower the local church to serve the most vulnerable. They mobilize and equip churches and communities around the world to create change that lasts.
