Energy Conservation
What is it?
Energy conservation is the practice of reducing energy use through efficient technologies, behaviors, and practices. It is important to a city’s sustainability because it lowers energy costs, decreases greenhouse gas emissions, and reduces reliance on finite natural resources. This helps cities enhance energy security, mitigate climate change, and create a healthier, more resilient environment for residents.
Who is working on it in the Tri-Cities?
- Benton Public Utility District (PUD) – The utility provides many energy tips for your home, provides rebates for conserving energy, and has a Residential Energy Efficiency Program for builders.
- Richland Energy Services (RES) – Provides ways to save energy throughout the year, rebates and loans for energy efficiency upgrades, and commercial and industrial rebates.
- Benton Rural Electric Association (REA) – Offers residential rebates for energy-efficient appliances and equipment, aiming to help members achieve energy efficiency and comfort in their homes.
- Benton Franklin Community Action Committee (BFCAC) – Provides pathways out of poverty through energy assistance programs to help with electricity, natural gas, propane, heating oil, wood, and other heating needs for residents in Benton and Franklin Counties.
